Municipal Campaign Schools

The WILG Project hosts municipal campaign schools for women every four years approximately six months prior to the municipal elections. The purpose of these non-partisan schools is to provide an educational and fun training session for women interested in running for municipal council for the first time.

The first schools were offered in 2008 and again in 2012 in the following locations: Dartmouth, Yarmouth, Stellarton, Berwick, Sydney, and Port Hawkesbury.

The schools yielded excellent results. With eight schools offered thus far, there were 206 participants, 61 of which ran for municipal office with a total of 23 elected including two mayors.

The next municipal campaign schools will be held in the Spring of 2016 just prior to the October municipal elections.
